During 2008 Hi-Con carried out a research project in collaboration with the Danish engineering company Cowi and Haucon, the Scandinavian agent for Schöcks isokorb cold bridge breaker. The aim of the project was to develop a successor for the flap balconies, that had been extremely popular, but where there was a demand for a system that provided better insulation, better noise reduction and was easier to install. The project included a series of full scale tests carried out at Hi-Con's plant in Hjallerup and at the Schöck lab in Baden-Baden.

The preferred design was actually very similar to the flap balconies, however, in this case an isokorb was built into the flap, which meant there was no need for the insulation below and above the flap. The first project carried out with CRC isokorb balconies was for Flintholmen, Copenhagen and after the project tests were carried out by Cowi measuring impact sounds and doing a thermography analysis.

The isokorb solutions have currently been used on a number of projects and a number of variations have already been designed, e.g. where the thickness of the slab has been reduced from 135 mm - corresponding to the thickness of the isokorb - and down to 100 mm.
